LETTERS: Fiji FACT

I was watching the live screening of yesterday’s games from the comfort of my home. Thanks to Fiji Football Association (FFA) and Mai TV. Together with me, my father, an international referee in his prime, was also in attendance.
He came from the same crop of international referees such as the late Hari Raaj Nicker, Jonny Bakaridi, Mahen Singh, Nardeo Mishra, and Gopalan Khanna, to name a few. They were respected referees and great human beings on and off the field.

During the intervals, I switched over to the EPL channel. There was absolutely no comparison.
Utch khoti ka soccer, my foot. My father requested that I please switch over to Super Rugby, and I can go watch this circus as much as I want from my office.
I understand there is a “huge” investment of $6000 made by the Fiji FA towards drug testing for all players.
Maybe that’s the reason the players are unable to string together three clean, neat passes in phases. Totally shocking.

When I heard that all players would be tested, the very next thing that came to mind was: how many teams would take part and how many would fall out completely?
The tests should not stop at players alone, please.
All the team officials, referees, and Fiji FA, too, should be tested. They all seem to be on a “high.”
I wonder when our development will finish and if we will be able to watch some “real soccer.”

In the meantime, a humble request to the OHS team in Labasa: please take a look at the toilet facilities at Subrail Park.
In the past, it was so filthy that the majority unfortunately preferred the river banks. In the interim, let’s enjoy the ‘FACT’ from FFA.
