As a Fijian Sevens team supporter, I am concerned that the results are not what we had expected from the Fiji men’s rugby 7s team at the HSBC SVNS Singapore tournament.
The Fijians were beaten by USA and Great Britain in their pool matches but managed to beat Ireland.
However, they failed to make the Cup quarterfinal.
As two-time Olympic Games gold medal winners and now being winless in 20 series tournaments, Fiji’s chances of a third Olympic gold medal look glim.
For a country, where sevens rugby is its national sport, it is a national issue if we don’t get that gold.
So, what’s now?
It’s time for the coaches to analyse the approach they need to take.
Negotiations must start with overseas clubs and the Fijian Drua, over the release of players needed for the Olympics, which is from July 26 to August 11.
Let’s take it step by step and surely, we’ll get to where we want in Paris.
