Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s response to Vani Cokanisiga’s comments shows the PM’s pettiness and his poor leadership.
Rather than address issues, he is asking her to show the division in the coalition.
Come on Mr PM, do you really think the Fijians are so dumb that they cannot see the shenanigans in the Coalition?
You have been plagued with one crisis after another and in any other mature democracy, you and the Government would have been history.
The only thing holding the Government together is the lust for power and the fear of losing your positions with the associated perks.
Measured against even the most basic KP is, the coalition ministers fail miserably, which will be clearly demonstrated at the next available opportunity.
There is nether the time and place to do an assessment of ministers here, but I can assure the Government, the public is observing closely and will not be fooled.
As if the performance and rhetoric from the usual ministers such as finance, foreign affairs, infrastructure, employment, social services, sugar, trade, etc is not enough, just see reports on Minister Nalumisa’s pathetic comments on the local government.
The promised elections have no timeframe! ‘It takes a lot of planning’, he lectures. Hello, wasn’t this a constant complain when you were in the Opposition? And you have had nearly 20 years to prepare for this?
There is a continued lack of policy or strategy to deal with informal settlements, most of which do not pay any rates, on the accumulated rate arrears and the growing issues related to lawlessness, parking, waste and drug use in our urban centres.
I am not sure whether one can really have too much expectation in the budget, as the PM claims.
The last budget was void of any credible initiatives such as duty free access of renew-able energy technology to deal with climate change (a subject of countless motherhood statements from all the Ministers at all sorts of platforms), building resilience to the growing impacts of climate change, especially on children and women, on all economic sectors.
All we have been reading about is proposals to increase taxes; be it on departure, income, food, etc.
Of course, you can play around with the excel spreadsheet and divert $8.3 million to cover the cost of the increase payments for MPs, Speaker and President. But that is not the point.
Our tax dollars need to be spent in an equitable, just and transparent manner for the betterment of all the citizens of this country.
