“It is a sad sight to witness young children and youths between the ages of 8-16, making ends meet to feed their family.
As a few households within the Suva area and out-skirts rarely have a solid bread winner in the family, parents and especially single parents struggle to make ends meet and have no other choice but to rely on their children to also contribute.
This is evident within the Sports City Area near McDonalds in Laucala Bay and Damodar City, Kundan Singh parking lot and many other locations that are centralised shopping malls. It is a common sight to see these children and young minors selling menial products or begging for spare change to support their family.
These instances of parents labouring their children, should be acknowledged and dealt with and parents must be held accountable or offered help to raise their standard of living.
This is not a new issue and has been going on for quite some time.
Therefore, this sets a bad image towards the country, Capital City (Suva), local government and people as a whole.
Our children and youths, deserve to be heard and properly cared for”
