Unbelievable!
The Nadi Town Council’s annual financial statements for the years 2018 to 2022 have not been prepared and submitted for audit and public scrutiny yet.
This situation is unprecedented and needs to be thoroughlly investigated.
This is not a sign of good management and staff output.
I think, at this juncture, it’s also fair to say that the SA concept that is in force since 2016 or thereabout, is proving to be a gross failure.
The fact that there are other councils who are also behind in producing their annual statements gives you further indication that checks and balances are not in place and things are taken too lightly.
Who is supposed to see that such mess is not created in the first place?
How is NTC going to clear such a backlog of work, which is a direct result of negligence and irresponsibleness?
Who is going to stand for the mess and costs involved to put things in perspective?
As a matter of fact, such lapses had never occurred during the time the elected councils were running the show.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem anything will improve unless, I think, we bring back the elected reps.
I was listening to submissions to the Public Accounts Committee by council management and find it to be more of a polishing exercise and nothing else.
