Pacific Recycling Foundation should be commended for its efforts in bringing business leaders together to join a worthy cause that’s sure to shape the future of their businesses.
The foundation collaborated with Tourism Fiji, Swire Shipping, Pacific Energy, Fiji National University, Nestle, R.C. Manubhai, Department of Environment and support partners Goodman Fielder, Pure Fiji and TFL.
These companies and institutions, leading brands in their sectors, understand that successful brands aren’t just built on profits or marketing strategies.
They are also built on commitment to the communities they operate in, and making a positive change on the environment you built your empire on.
Together, they took the Global Recycling Day celebration to Queen Victoria School, an institution that’s symbolic of shaping Fiji’s leaders of tomorrow.
And what better way than to bring a group of like-minded and influential people to amplify the call to action to sustainability and better waste management to one of Fiji’s top secondary schools.
This year’s theme: “Keeping Promises: A Commitment to Sustainability” is a timely reminder to be true to our word, as custodians of Planet Earth, we need to learn to co-exist with nature.
Hence, the involvement of business leaders and organisations sends this message louder for there is power in unity.
QVS became the fourth school to become part of the foundation’s Recycling on the Go (ROG) Ambassadors programme.
Since 2022, the PRF in partnership with Swire Shipping has launched the programme in three schools and expanded its reach to more than 2600 students, their families, and communities.
The programme is designed to impact mindset towards recycling and to instill best practices of recycling in the school environment.
What is our responsibility as custodians of Planet Earth?
Pacific Recycling Foundation founder Amitesh Deo couldn’t have said it better: “As the nation grapples with the impact of climate change and environmental degradation, events like Global Recycling Day serve as catalysts for collective action.
“By bringing together diverse voices and perspectives, GRD 2024 fostered a sense of solidarity in the fight against improper waste management and pollution.”
Chief guest, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s speech on the occasion reinforces Government’s commitment towards sustainable development.
“…I want to assure you all that the people’s Coalition Government recognises the actions of individuals and businesses in recycling.,” he said.
“The people’s Coalition Government will continue to support initiatives which promotes recycling in Fiji.
