‘ Letters’: Rabuka’s reputation

As Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has exercised his prerogative to retain Lynda Tabuya as a minister notwithstanding her alleged ministerial misconduct and his own party’s decision to consequently remove her as a deputy party leader.

The result of Rabuka’s perplexing decision is that his own reputation has gone down the drain.

In fact, Rabuka – the father of the coup culture in Fiji – did not have much of a reputation to start with but many well-meaning people of Fiji were prepared to be charitable and give him another chance to lead the country.

He has clearly squandered that chance.

Now, his days in power are numbered.
