Congratulations to Mr Rusiate Tudravu, for being appointed as the new COMPOL.
A word of caution though that people should not expect him to address all the issues overnight with his magic wand.
Most of the rot in the Police Force and the lack lustre and lethargic criminal justice system is a cumulative sum total of the government’s poor performance over the years so it will be lots of efforts and months down the line before any change may be seen.
There is a lot of catching up for the new COMPOL, so I would have thought that Constitutional Officers Commission (CoC) would have maintained the Acting Commissioner, Mr Juki Fong Chew, in his present role and appointed Mr Tudravu as the second commissioner to address the backlog.
We have three Deputy Prime Ministers, so why can’t we have two Police Commissioners? There is still time to review Mr Chew’s engagement as acting commissioner with a view to retaining him for a period of three years.
The combined Tudravu/Fong team can be every breadth of value adding decision.
