‘Letters’: Mixed reactions on pardon decision

The pardoning of George Speight after 24 long years of incarceration will not go down well in some quarters of our multicultural community. This is understandable. Some hurts will not go away.

Somehow and some way, Fiji must dig deep and move on in life.

Fiji is respectfully reminded two coup makers, in military fatigues, became prime ministers – one is prime minister, again.

The rules were made to suit some, most conveniently. Truth and reconciliation is not an easy process. Speight and his companions, must be given the space needed as they strive to handle transition to ‘re-living’ life.

Being locked away for almost a quarter century then enjoying freedom takes huge and accommodating adjustments. Confessions might come in good time.

Admittedly, some of us will find it impossible to forgive our perpetrators of that fateful year, 2000. This is unfortunate.

To fear God, calls us to be forgiving. This is no easy feat.
