I’m writing to draw attention to the abuse of those who are vulnerable, especially the LGBTQ community that continues to take place in our neighbourhoods as violation of human rights.
In our community, there have been numerous reports of discrimination, violence, and persecution against LGBTQ members, and that includes verbal and bodily attacks, harassment, and even the denial of basic human rights and services.
Having such inequalities in our society is depressing, especially considering that Fiji takes tremendous pride in being a diverse multicultural country.
It is vital that we address these problems and seek to create a secure and accommodating environment for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, as a country that values equality and human rights.
I ask the Government to act promptly to safeguard the rights of the LGBTQ+ community and implement policies that promote diversity, equality, and acceptance.
It is imperative that we oppose discrimination and fight to build a society in which every individual gets treated with respect and equality.
Within our very own outdoors, there are numerous human rights violations that we cannot ignore.
Together, let’s build a society in which everyone can live without fear of retaliation.
