The proposed changes to the personal emoluments, allowances and entitlements for our political leaders should come as no surprise to all of us.
The trend of these representatives of ours taking care of themselves first and the rest ofus in “good time” is testimony of a few things that we as citizens have failed to address for decades now.
We should not complain and simply give these folks running our country a standing ovation because we remain as expected victims of our ignorance, laziness and bad decision making.
What we should focus more on now is to in-still in our children those values that would drive them to be informed, honest, hardworking and conscious of the realities around them so that when it is their time to choose their leaders, they do so more diligently than we have ever managed.
When we vote for people based on what we want to hear and on hearsay, then we forfeit scrutiny of the character, ideas, ideals and vision of the people we elect. So, for now, let’s just watch these “mesmerisers” uncloak themselves and on our part let us unshackle our ignorance and laziness so that when we go to the polls in 2026, we can improve on our decision-making and yield in the change that our country truly deserves.
