I write to warmly congratulate the Government for extending the retirement age for specialist professionals.
This was essential to arresting the mass exodus of our skilled labor force for greener pastures.
The trend for mass migration and the flight of capital from Fiji started way back in 1987 with the first coup.
This was followed by other coups, and the fear is still very much alive today.
The business community and the professional cadre find the first opportunity to leave our shores and settle in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, or the United States of America.
The 2013 Constitution of Fiji is yet another reason for mass migrations.
It has heaps of illegalities and anomalies that hang like the sword of Damocles over our heads.
It is an illegally imposed document, very dictatorial in nature, and designed to concentrate power in the hands of a few.
So much so that the Coalition Government is finding it difficult to extricate itself from the legal maze contained therein.
Decisions based on decrees are illegal and unacceptable because one cannot find redress in the courts of law.
And we continue to perpetuate these illegalities and continue to call ourselves a democratic nation!
I wonder what the human rights activists are doing to raise their voices against the human rights violations in the 2013 Constitution.
The political scenario has changed, and we must set the record right.
The matter must be taken to court for a judicial review.
Therefore, it is my view that no amount of cosmetic tinkering will help us restore confidence in Fiji.
The fear factor will persist, and mass migration will continue!
