The decision by Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) in appointing Mick Byrne as Flying Fijians national coach is totally unacceptable and shameful.

It smacks of interference from World Rugby, political lobbying, and money.

This game is played by more and more countries worldwide, but World Rugby is run by a group of ex-players ensuring the big nations prosper, expat coaches are given coaching positions, and island teams are designated coaches at rugby world choice.

The Fiji Flying has now been assigned Mick Byrne as national coach, an expat, who cannot win an away game as Drua coach, local wins are by a point or two, but given position above our very capable local coach.

Senirusi Seruvakula is the obvious choice, experienced local provincial rugby, warriors’ successful mentor, proven local success and understudy to three expat Flying Fijian coaches for the World Cup.

Why do we persist with an expat coach when a local is suitable?

Yet, they preach in a statement they are committed to supporting a local development programme?

Please, out with Byrne and in with Seruvakula!
