The Fiji Taxi Association is calling for a review of the current taxi fare rate (FS 8/4).
It is a norm that when workers in Fiji are about to get an announcement for a wage increase, other businesses will try to increase their fees or prices too.
If the Government is serious about uplifting the lives of struggling Fijians living under the poverty line, then it should freeze all current prices of goods and services for a period of time.
If the wages are increased and the cost of goods and services increase also then the whole wage increase exercise is of no benefit at all.
Put all the increases in prices on hold, get workers to lift their standard of living through the wages increase and the smiles on struggling Fijians will return.
Fijians have the “You scratch my back, and I will scratch y ours” mentality.
Throw them a lifeline, maintain it and the Rabuka Coalition will surely be voted back in power come the next General Election.
