Letters: Chinese Influence

The rubbish being peddled by some against the involvement of China’s development in Fiji and the region speaks volume of neocolonialism.

China treats its international partners as equal partners with development assistance and equal cooperation.

Yes, the Chinese give aid and loans, but they don’t dictate to us on whether we should change our policies and laws to suit their
needs.

What they needed in return, is the priority access to resources but they will develop infrastructures such as roads, wharves and bridges to areas where mines will be located.

Concerning narcotics, most of it comes from our so-called big brothers and United States.

On people trafficking, we should be more concerned with paedophiles from Australia, New Zealand and the United States, who are
posing as genuine tourists.

Surely, we do not want to turn into Thailand where tourism is associated with paedophilia and sex tourism; mostly patronised
by white Caucasian men from Western countries.
