Is Fiji still classified as a third-world country?
If yes, then the colonialism mentality hangover is still rife within the Fiji business fraternity.
That is the reason why the majority of Fijians, who are labourers’ and low-income earners, still live below the poverty line and are paid below $3.
But what has happened to the increase of $5 for the minimum wage flag? that was done to cushion the hardship for those ordinary poor Fijians who face it daily?
May I ask our Minister for Labour and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, and PM Rabuka what they are doing about the increase in minimum wages? Is it real or just a joke?
Looking for greener pastures is human nature and a constitutional right by law for every Fijian who wishes to migrate, irrespective of whether they are civil servants, RFMF officers, police officers, lawyers, doctors, or simple market vendors and farmers.
Our government of the day has no right to stop anyone who wishes to migrate offshore and start a better life for their families, which Fiji cannot provide.
How do we arrest the brain drain?
Or is the shortage of labour a problem?
I do not think we are doing the right thing for all Fijian citizens.
Toso Viti toso.
