When the initial euphoria of the political change from 16 long years of authoritarian rule brought about by the installation of a new Coalition Government subsided, there have been increasing number of question marks on the promised delivery of good governance.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s unilateral decision to retain Lynda Tabuya as a minister (‘Lynda Will Remain a Minister ‘ FS 1313) has raised questions to a new high.
Rabuka said he “would not rely on the deliberations of the People’s Alliance party’s disciplinary committee”.
So, who has Rabuka relied on?
There is widespread public outrage over Rabuka’s rejection of his own party disciplinary mechanism, which removed Lynda
Tabuya as party deputy leader on the basis of its finding of ministerial misconduct by her.
Is this a case of Rabuka shooting himself in the foot and sounding the death knell of the Coalition Government?
The analytical Fiji Sun editorial of 14 March seems to think so.
We shall wait and see.
