Women, please stop celebrating men who do 10 household chores.
When a man “helps” his spouse, mother or sister around the house, he is always for going that extra mile.
We often hear women say, “Oh! You are so lucky to have a husband who cooks!” or “Your son is doing laundry? Wow! You are fortunate!”
There is nothing special about a man helping his wife/mother/sister in household chores.
They live in the same house and should shoulder the same responsibility as any member of the house should do.
Because celebrating them insinuates that men do not need to do anything at home.
And when they do, it is considered to be “special”.
It is something like, “I technically do not have to clean up but because I am a good son/ husband/brother, I should assist the ladies in my house”.
We need to start questioning ourselves regarding the stereotypes and biases that are imbibed within us.
The next time you catch yourself thanking someone for being a basic, decent human being, ask yourself whether this person is supposed to be celebrated or he should do it because he is supposed to.
Look inwards.
Your answer will be right there!
