In a free-market economy where things are determined by supply and demand and based on costs of doing business, for the government to artificially control prices of certain items is untenable.
The prices of these items will change – either increase or decrease – based on market forces, freight costs, warehousing, and transportation costs and the like.
Whether they have VAT or not is not a consideration.
Artificially controlling prices does not make it a free and fair economy but makes it a basket case like North Korea and the former Soviet Union.
We all know what happens in those sorts of countries.
The forces of nature will bring about the right prices, not the FCCC or the government.
So, you just must live with the choices you make.
