Las Vegas win

Wise Muavono , Lautoka

A big vinaka vakalevu to our 7s warriors for retaining the Las Vegas title. Especially for dedicating the win to all those affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston. You have done the nation proud. Go Fiji go.

Simply Superb

Pranil Ram,  Nadi

Congratulations to the Fiji 7’s team for winning the Las Vegas leg of the World Rugby sevens series. You have not only done yourselves proud but of the entire nation as well.

The win has come at a better time as the whole nation is picking up the pieces after the massive damage caused by cyclone Winston.  Indeed you have lifted the spirit of all Fijians. You have also shown the whole world that Fiji is stronger that Winston.

Its befitting that you deserve heaps of praises and accolades. On the field the performance has been simply a superb one. You have put smiles back on the faces of all Fijians. Go Fiji Go!

Tropical Cyclone Winston

Amenatave Yaconisau,  Delainavesi

It is now the  the third week  after Tropical Cyclone Winston and I have not seen the National Council of Churches nor religious organisations have a national service seeking revelation and humility for what has happened.

These are the Moses who speaks on our behalf in front of god almighty.

There seem to be a great deal of meaninglessness all over Fiji; economic incapacity and life is really hard for most of us some with bitterness and resentment.  Despite the assistance there is a lot of fear about the future with price increases, loss of jobs, increased responsibilities and disruption of usual programme.

Yet some are going around preaching doom  instead of a cross in their hands .  They are preaching misfortune  as a penalty for sin .

What we greatly need now is goodwill  that recognises urgency of human  need  instead of what James 2:16 said to a needy brother’Go in peace be warmed and fillled’ offering only empty words.

With all the pictures offered by this news newspaper it is hard to refuse those who suffer.

SODELPA and FTU contributions

Tukai Lagonilakeba,  Nadi

In the national interests and positive move in the right direction, they have decided to put their political differences aside and contribute $70k and $20k respectively to assist those affected Fijians who have been left with almost nothing by category five Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston.

They should be commended for their maturity, for being selfless with their sacrifices in moving forward with their respective positive inputs on humanitarian grounds.

Vinaka Ro Teimumu Kepa  and co, dhaniyavad to the Fiji Teachers Union president Muniappa Gounder and his executives for your foresight, it is indeed very heartening, kind and is a clear indication of patriotism.

Meanwhile, the 57 year old Dan Urai has got his priorities wrong and is forever advertising himself and forever negatively contributing daily in our local media’s whilst his members suffer, but I have yet to hear of him publicly announce his Fiji Hotel and Tourism Unions desire to assist and contribute to those many union members in the hotel industry who’s livelihood’s were severely affected in the aftermath of TC Winston throughout the country, similar to the Fiji Teachers Union positive gesture.

The NFP’s Biman Prasad has done well to mobilise his team in his support of our PM’s call and desire to ensure that every Fijians affected receive their necessary relief items with health assistance where applicable as soon as practicable.

Fundraising response

Sanjay Raniga,  Australia

It is heart warming to see daily local businesses and individuals  digging deep to donate to help fellow Fijians  in time of need.

Credit must be given to our Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama whose policy of uniting our nation by naming  all citizens “ Fijians “ has payed huge dividends as all citizens regardless of race / religion feel the pain of the nation as one.

This has brought our nation together  like never before and beyond any doubt the past leaders and may I add the current opposition and their divisive “us and them” policies would not  have achieved half of what the current response has been.

One of PM’s aims has been is for Fiji to be once again be  called “the way the world should be” PM  Sir  we are once again the way the world should be!

Thanks to each and everyone who donated wether it was a dollar or a hundred thousand dollars , weather it was a school book or a food hamper, united we are to take our beloved Fiji back to its best.

Fund-raise without hassles

Timoci Gaunavinaka,  Nausori

I thank FM96 and other people who are currently fundraising for victims of Cyclone Winston.

Only one small ‘kerekere’. Please run your fund-raising in a manner that does not victimise other people.

While driving from Valelevu to Nausori on Saturday morning, I met a queue of vehicles extending from Nakasi to the Nausori bridge blocking one lane while a dozen of men and women in FM96 Tee-shirts are marching with their money boxes.

I can see the frustrations on drivers’ faces who were rushing to and from Nausori for Saturday shopping or to work being caught up in this two hour long traffic jam.

Wouldn’t it be better to spread your group and visit every office in Suva, Nasinu and Nausori areas and put some of your people on major street corners with their money boxes and banners so people can give money and also go about their own commitments?

Nausori is a busy town on Saturdays serving people from three provinces. I am sure you can always come up with a more convenient way to do that.

My wife and I make $50 direct deductions per fortnight from our joint account to the PM’s Cyclone Relief account to last the whole year without any hassles.

Red card

Edwin RF Sandys,  Namadi Heights

I wish to comment on the question raised by Arti Verma by the handicap person. Please note that the card when used in a taxi will entitle him to a 20 per cent discount on the taxi fare. If the taxi driver does not stop we ask that the person reports the matter to the LTA.

As a taxi driver these drivers not wanting to pick up handicap people, should be taken to task and I only hope they are suspended from driving for a minimum of three months. This should be done to discourage taxi drivers from doing this as they disgrace the taxi profession.

Electricians

Sukha Singh,  Labasa

I like to thank the person who posted the picture of the electrician being lowered down a pole. The question I would like to ask Fiji Electricity Authority is are the same stringent safety procedures and training that FEA workers go through to work on power lines required of these contractors?

I read a comment from a guy who had to call FEA guys to bring this electrocuted person down to the ground.

This statement shows this guy was probably working alone on the pole and had no co worker on the ground.

I would be very grateful to FEA if they can give their side of the story on how the wire got live and if these workers from the private contractors have done the pole top rescue and if these contractors have all the safety equipment, and if they also require a permit to work before they start.
