Difficult times
Caryn Walsh , Australia
I send this note with open arms that you may all be safe and your families not threatened.
It is a very difficult time for all of you and there is nothing more terrifying than the wrath of mother nature. We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and the devastation that this cyclone has brought with it to the wonderful Fijian people, to whom we feel so deeply connected and whom we admire so much.
I echo the sentiments of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama when he said: “We will stand united in the face of this disaster.”
The Fijian people are stoic, strong, resilient and brave and we know you will move through this very difficult time together, one step at a time, facing a brighter future.
I am pleased to see that many agencies and countries are helping, including Australia, who began deploying helicopters, personnel and humanitarian relief supplies to the Fijian people on Monday.
Our hearts are with you, and we are thinking about you every minute of the day.
Bless you all!!
FNPF assistance
Shalendra Bishwa, Labasa
With the effect of Cyclone Winston on the face of everyone in Fiji, and support required from all sources, I wonder what is the stand of the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) if they would allow us to access some assistance from our own hard earned money.
After all it’s our money and could be used for us at this time of great need.
Hands up who wants to be part of this withdrawal?
Life threatening experience
Peggy Thomas,
Pacific Harbour
Now that we have experienced the second most devastating cyclone in recorded history to make landfall we can truly say it was a form of life’s experience. I share my deepest condolences to all families who have lost members and belongings.
If only I was rich as the Kardashian’s or better yet Bill Gates I would donate my millions to all who have lost everything. I am sure the banks will donate in the millions too if times were not that hard for them.
In any case, whatever one can donate will no doubt be appreciated. Beggars cannot be choosers they say. My prayers and thoughts are forever with you all. May the good Lord help us through our sufferings and pain.
Bula smile
Wise Muavono , Lautoka
It was great to see the people badly affected by TC Winston still have that bula smile we Fijians are well-known for. The cyclone may have destroyed their houses and plantations but it did not take away the bula smile and their sense of humour. Stay blessed Fiji.
